A softer take on color for 2016: For the first time, the blending of two shades \u2013 Rose Quartz and Serenity are chosen as the PANTONE Color of the Year.<\/p>\n

Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times (according to Pantone).

Don\u2019t think this news affects you, then think again. You will have customers who will want to try the new colors. Especially in the Spirit market or fashion forward segment. Look around you these colors have already left the nursery and invaded fashion, home decor and other artful outlets. Blending, \u201cRose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.\u201d Stated by Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute in a recent press release. We all need a calmer influence in these stressful times.<\/p>\n

This choice also shows that Pantone looked at the Political Culture when selecting the 2 colors for this year.

\u201cThis more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumers\u2019 increased comfort with using color as a form of expression which includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.Pantone\u2019s color of the year selection is based on a number of influences, including the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socioeconomic conditions. The company says influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.<\/p>\n

The colors selected as the Pantone Color of the Year 2016 were taken from the PANTONE FASHION, HOME + INTERIORS Color System. This August, PANTONE released 210 new colors to the system. PANTONE 15-3919, Serenity, and PANTONE 13-1520, Rose Quartz, are included in this collection of 210 new shades.<\/p>\n
