{"id":391,"date":"2012-04-25T19:00:50","date_gmt":"2012-04-25T19:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/?p=391"},"modified":"2012-04-25T21:48:01","modified_gmt":"2012-04-25T21:48:01","slug":"whats-new-at-the-q","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/whats-new-at-the-q\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s New at the Q?!?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everybody in the wonderful world of commercial art and embroidery\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Before I get in to the meat of today\u2019s topic I would like to make a request.\u00a0 If any of you would like me to speak to a direct topic will you please drop me a line at <a href=\"mailto:steve.freeman@qdigitizing.com\" target=\"_blank\">steve.freeman@qdigitizing.com<\/a> and let me know what you think would make a good topic.\u00a0 If it is in my area of expertise I will do my best to write a compelling article.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nIn anticipation of our launch for our Smart Phone APP next month I thought I would take a whimsical look back to the late 1980\u2019s when I first learned to be a digitizer.\u00a0 Oh my gosh, how things have changed!<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anyone out there remember paper tapes? Or for you real old timers, punch cards and mechanical machines!<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Who here remembers when10 days was considered a rush order?<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When I had my first design programmed in 1988 I paid $30 per 1,000 stitches.\u00a0 The average price for a design was $210.\u00a0 Adjusted for inflation that is the same as $407 dollars today.\u00a0 Pardon me for using pop culture vernacular but OMG! \u00a0I shudder to do the math.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In 1989 my first digitizing system cost about $32,000.\u00a0 Today I can buy an excellent system for around $5,500 even though the truly professional software is north of $10k south of $15k.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 My first embroidery machines did not have trimmers and if you think hats are tough now\u2026You have no idea!<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I remember when 650 stitches a minute was FAST!<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When I learned to digitize my system was hooked up directly to a an embroidery machine. If I made a mistake, I started over.\u00a0 This was a great way to learn\u2026but made for some very long nights.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In 1993 I was one of the first companies to start transferring embroidery files over what would become the internet we all know and love today.\u00a0 We had a Wildcat Bulletin Board and we thought we were \u201cALL THAT.\u201d\u00a0 Then we got crushed by AOL and spent the next 10 years playing catch up.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Floppy discs?\u00a0 I know some of you still use \u2018em but you better find a good source because they will be going away and replaced by far more efficient means of data transfer.<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0\u00a0 Zip Drives\u2026there was a product with a short shelf life.\u00a0 It is a good thing Iomega was a nimble company and able to adapt quickly.<\/p>\n<p>11.\u00a0\u00a0 I can\u2019t think of a more welcome revolution than a move from 10,000 pound CRT monitors to far superior flat panel displays.<\/p>\n<p>12.\u00a0\u00a0 Smart phones and APPs \u2013 \u2018nuff said!<\/p>\n<p>13.\u00a0\u00a0 Magic Jack \u2013 Skype \u2013 Fonality.\u00a0 Thank goodness for VoIP!!!<\/p>\n<p>14.\u00a0\u00a0 I could list a hundred more technological revolutions but my favorite one, by far is my MiFi.\u00a0 I love being able to get 4G internet anywhere I go.<br \/>\nWith all of that said Qdigitizing is kicking it up another notch.\u00a0 In May we are launching the Qdigitizing APP for Android, iPhone, iPad and Blackberry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/qdig5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-404\" title=\"qdig5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/qdig5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"136\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This App will enable you to place orders, check status and retrieve archived files all from the convenience of your smart phone, wherever you are.\u00a0 For now this will only be available for digitizing but phase two will add the same functions for the art side of our house.\u00a0 We want to work the kinks out and get feedback from all of you before we go too nuts.<\/p>\n<p>As always \u2013 please reach out to me here with any questions, comments or requests for content.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Freeman<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everybody in the wonderful world of commercial art and embroidery\u2026 Before I get in to the meat of today\u2019s<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[98],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-391","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-qdigitizing-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/391","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=391"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/391\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":405,"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/391\/revisions\/405"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=391"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=391"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.qdigitizing.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=391"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
