Top 5 Pinterest Tips for Businesses

Welcome back to our social media marketing series! So far we’ve covered Twitter and Instagram and this week we’re going to cover Pinterest. You might think that Pinterest is one of those sites where people just share images that are related to their hobbies and interests.  However, this is far from the case and it can actually have a lot of benefits for business, if you approach it the right way!

  1. Did you know that you can set up a Pinterest business account?  These are a little different than the standard accounts and while you don’t have to go down this route if you aren’t sure, it really is worth considering if you want to create a professional profile and add a little more credibility to your business.
  2. Make the most of all the tools that are out there to help you.  Developers are creating tools and apps all the time that can help you to take advantage of the potential of Pinterest.  There are apps out there that can give you a fuller dashboard, help you to keep up to date with the most popular boards and pins and others that will help you to make your boards more exciting.  If you have a product to sell you can also set up an online shop through your Pinterest account with the help of Shopinterest.
  3. Keep an eye on Pinterest Analytics.  This is essential for any business because it helps you see how many people have been pinning items from your website and the amount of views that your pins are getting.  Being able to pinpoint what is trending is a great way of keeping your page up to date and ensuring that your page will continue to get plenty of traffic.
  4. Make sure that your website is ‘pinnable’, the more images you have on your website, the better. Visitors to your website will then be able to pin images from your site to their own Pinterest page and this will help to encourage traffic to your site.
  5. Do a little research and get to know your audience.  It will not help you to be random about the content on your website, your Pinterest page or any other social media that you are using.  If you are offering a specific product or service then you may have a target market in mind and your sites should reflect this.  Figure out what demographic you want to target and then pin content relevant to this audience and your brand.

Pinterest is free to use and holds a lot of potential for those businesses that want to spread the word about their products and services. We hope you found these tips helpful and as always if you have any questions about Pinterest, please feel free to email me, Amy Grishman, at amy@socialfocus.com.
